Philosophy

Saint James strives to enter fully "into the saving mission of the Church, especially in the need to education in the faith". The school strives to create a climate of social, psychological, and physical, thus educating the whole child.

Saint James is committed to creating a positive Christian atmosphere within the school.   Parents are assisted in their primary responsibility of the Christian education of their children.  We recognize that "the parents are the first and foremost educators of their children and that the rights and duties they have are original and primary with the respect to the educational role of others." (Lay Catholics in Schools, Witness to Faith #12)  Our purpose, then, as Catholic Educators, is to serve as "partners of the parents" (Religious Dimensions, #42) in educating our students "to promote the welfare of society by preparing them to work to advance the reign of God." (Declaration on Christian Education, #8)

Building and living in a community of faith is a primary goal for our school.  We strive to animate the educating community-students, parents, teachers, staff, religious clergy - so that together we can effectively "integrate religious truth and values with life." (To Teach as Jesus Did, #105) Therefore, we strive to form in every student a sense of belonging. "Whether in the parish, the neighborhood, the local civic community, or the world, and begin to respond to the obligation of Christian service " (To Teach as Jesus Did #109)

St. john Bosco's philosophy is based on Reason, Religion, and Loving Kindness.

Reason: Being reasonable with the young

Religion: Walking with the young to Christ

Loving kindness: Reaching the heart of the young.

All this is carried out in the Salesian "Family Spirit" a familiar, respectful rapport expressed by spontaneity, joy, and friendship, between faculty, staff and students.
